December 29, 2012 - Lunch at Gettysburg
Mugsy heard their was a restaurant near the Gettysburg Airport so we decided to go check it out. Flying northwest we were surprised when we soon found ourself over snow-covered ground. What a difference 500 feet elevation makes.
It was only 20 minutes or so
to Gettysburg. That is the battlefield down below.
Overhead Gettysburg Airport (W05).
The airport was deserted. But
we knew the restaurant was just a little ways to the east down the
Chambersburg Road heading towards Gettysburg itself. Back in the
day, this road was Chambersburg Pike and the Army of Northern Virginia
marched down it from the west into Gettysburg.
The ramp wasn't very big and we weren't sure where to park so we just parked along the edge.
It was about half a mile to the restaurant. Actually there were two restaurants side by side. One was the Herr Tavern and Publick House which is more of a fine dining and B&B place. The other was a bar-restaurant called Sharpshooters and that is where we ate. The food was outstanding. Above average for airport restaurant fare. The walk wasn't bad except there was no sidewalk so you had to be careful to avoid getting hit by a car. After leaving Gettysburg, we did a little formation practice, some follow the leader, and then a little "Fights on!". Then we separated and I returned back to Essex Skypark. A nice flight.
